Melbourne Cup Day on Tuesday 1st November 2022
Tuesday 1st November dawned Bright and early as the Gaythorne Bowls machine swung into action preparing the Hall. We had some 130 plus bookings for the day and our Hall was set up to match numbers
People started to arrive and 11.30 came closer it was obvious that we would need seating for some 150.
Extra tables were set up and made ready. Catering was fine as we had asked Summer to cater for about 150 anyway.
About this time the bar became very busy to cater for the FREE drinks that were part of the entry cost. Also, business started to ramp up on the Race Sweep and Raffle tables. Two pictures below showing what was on Offer for raffles.
We even had a wheel Barrow donated. At this stage we would like to thank our Sponsors for their generosity.
Thank you to Brookside Newsagency, Bunnings Keperra, Carol, Ronny, Gaythorne Bowls for wine, Marty’s Manhole Hire, Mitch. Also, thanks to our Club ladies for Raffle prizes and assistance with the organisation of the day.
We had a wonderful Gent who sang, managed to get the people to sing as well as keeping the events of the day moving.
About 12.30 the food came out but the singing continued. We had Ham, Chicken drummies and Salad followed by Trifle with fruit and Ice-cream. Too busy eating that no pictures of the food were taken.
We also had a Fashion of the Field romp by some brave and wonderfully dressed ladies. Some photos provided.
Then the Big Event RACE TIME. We had set up about four TV’s and also had a central screen for the race. Unfortunately, the sun shining in the front windows made it difficult to see and people graduated into the Bar area and watched the race on our Large TV.
The whole day was beautifully controlled by Darrel who also provided the musical entertainment as well as getting everybody singing and waving their hands and arms. Have not seen Neal Diamond’s Sweet Caroline do that to a mainly seated audience.
Thanks to all those who helped and special thanks to all those members and friends who turned up and freely spent their hard-earned funds.
Thank You
